MONTREAL, September 25, 2021 / CNW Telbec / – Today, 740 Cogeco employees forge deeper ties with their communities as the company holds its first 1Cogeco Community Engagement Day. This annual, company-wide employee initiative involves Cogeco employees who support 46 local communities where they live and work. This year’s theme, Planting roots in our communities, includes tree planting events in all regions of Ontario and Quebec which are served by Cogeco, and several states in the United States which are served by its business unit, Atlantic Broadband.

These events support several local non-profit organizations, including: Halton Conservation, Grimo nut nursery, Trees for Nipissing, Nature-Action Quebec, Mont Association Rougemont, 3R Sustainable and Arbor Day Foundation who work to protect, restore and manage natural resources. This is in perfect harmony with Cogeco’s commitment to ensure sound environmental stewardship.

Highlights from this year’s initiative include:

  • 740 participants through Cogeco;

  • In 46 communities;

  • Plant 1,879 trees or seeds (which will absorb around 109 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions over the next 10 years);

  • Support 16 non-profit organizations;

  • In 2 countries, 2 provinces and 7 states.

Tree planting activities highlight two key pillars of Cogeco’s corporate social responsibility program: participating in the development of its communities and managing its environmental footprint. It also demonstrates Cogeco’s commitment to reducing the impacts of climate change. The 1Cogeco Community Involvement Day aligns with the company’s signing of the Business Ambition for 1.5 ° C commitment, an initiative of a global coalition of UN agencies and business leaders to prevent the worst impacts of climate change.
