The finals of the Chapa Dimba tournament in the Nyanza region are scheduled to take place this weekend at the Moi stadium in Kisumu city. Matches will see new winners crowned after defending champions Plateau Queens and Ombek Red Devils were shown the door in the group stage.
More than 200 teams from the region took part in the preliminary rounds of the tournament which were reduced to just 8 teams. In the boys semi-finals, Nyamira Springs will face the Victory Strikers of Kisii while Nyamaharaga of Kuria will face the Manyatta boys. In the women’s matches, Manyatta Girls will face Kisii United while Migori Education Center will face NCEOD Queens of Homabay.
The regional winners of the girls and boys teams will walk away with a cash reward of Ksh. 200,000 each and a chance to represent the region in the national final. The finalists will walk away with a cash prize of Ksh. 100,000.
In the regional finals for the Western Region held last month, the Blue Saints and Bishop Njenga Girls emerged victorious at Bukuhungu Stadium. In the Rift, defending champions Kapenguria Heroes lost in the group stage, which means this season we will have new winners for both boys and girls.
After the regionals are completed, the qualified teams will travel to Meru for the national finals scheduled for June 2019. The winning teams will each receive an amount of Ksh. 1 million. Subsequently, an all-star team will be selected to participate in a training camp in Spain.
